Topic: Healthy Streams
Introduction:
‘Homai te waiora ki ahau’. This Maori proverb means ‘give me the water of life’. Rivers are the lifeblood of our land. From our native forest, wild animals, farms and homes, it is important to look after our streams and rivers. New Zealand is known for our clean green image, but 80% of our rivers are not living up to our name.
I’m loving it. Yeah right! This is a very famous slogan from one of New Zealands iconic fast food restaurants, Mcdonalds. However, I think “I’m over it!”. It’s time to give this takeaway shpo the flick. I have been let down too many times, from incorrect orders to unclean and messy floors. Today I rate Mcdonalds a 2 out of 5 for service and food.
While Mcdonalds does have delicious food, the way thee present it at times is sloppy and doesn’t look the same as the menu board. The other concern I have about Mcdonalds is that I don’t often get given the correct order when it arrives. And thirdly, why do they always put ice in a drink that has been ordered NO ICE!
Lastly, I would just like to point out, their hygiene issues. The tables are always sticky and covered with gunk. However, the worst problem is the playground. It never gets cleaned and always smells like urine. EWW!
The purpose of this writing is so Mcdonals can get their act together and improve their service.
Kia Ora, my name is Nevaeh and I am a year 7 at otaki college. I am writing to you about animal testing and why it should be banned. This is very important to me because it isn't right that animals are used for testing. They are not dummies, so they should be treated fair.
Over 100 million deaths a year because of animal testing, is that something you really want to hear? Animals endure chemicals being dropped into their eyes, injected into their bodies, forced up their nostrils and compelled down their throats. They are addicted to drugs, forced to inhale/ingest toxic substances, subjected to maternal deprivation, deafened, blinded, burned, staple and infected with viruses.
WIndex, Post-It's, Mars Candy, Bandaids, Kleenex and Vaseline, these are the most products tested on animals. Scientists are also testing drugs for human medication. Even though it's for your health and safety, it still isn't right.
In fact, the data shows that animal studies fail to predict real human outcomes in 50 to 99.7% of cases. The NIH (National Institutes of health) has noted that 95% of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests, fail in human trials because they don't work or are dangerous.
As you can see animal testing is harmful and is not alright. These reasons are to show you how sad it is. So we should stop now!
